Pathology

Department of pathology and laboratory services at MTMH is equipped with the most modern facilities to provide diagnostic services of high quality which is the backbone of patient management. Early detection coupled with effective therapy and rigorous follow up leads to significant reduction in morbidity and mortality in cancer patients. The department has state of the art equipment together with experienced staff to support the clinicians to achieve the above goal.

The laboratory has facilities for all hematological, biochemical and microbiological studies, with state of the art equipment. The department has a full fledged histopathology and cytopathology sections, which are essential for good quality cancer care today.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Diagnostic services include histopathology, cytopathology, clinical pathology, haematology, biochemistry and microbiology, which is the backbone for optimum patient management. For Therapeutic services, we take help of Jamshedpur Blood Bank,  which include whole blood transfusion facilities along with components especially single donor platelet on an exclusive computerized cell separator.

FC 500 - 5 (Five) Colour Flow Cytometive Analyser.

Haematology : This section has one fully automated cell counters Sysmex KX-21 which give 18 haematological parameters which includes a 3 part WBC differential count.

Biochemistry : A fully computerized section with Maplab Plus, Easylyte Electrolyte Analyser and state of the art Blood Gas Analyser with liquid calibration cater to all the biochemical work up of the patient.

Microbiology and Serology : facilities for aerobic and anaerobic cultures are available. Elisa Reader with an automatic washer helps in screening of infectious diseases.

Histopathology and Cytopathology : are the back bone for early detection and patient management in a Cancer Hospital. Cytopathology - comprises of two main areas.

a) Exfoliative cytopathology - which encompasses Pap Smear study, fluid and sputum cytology. Cell Blocks are prepared where required.
b) FNAC Smears - superficial aspirations are done by the clinicians in the OPD, and deep aspirations are done under guidance of imaging techniques (flouroscopy, CT & USG).

Histopathology services include comprehensive diagnostic coverage in house biopsy processing in an automated tissue processor to surgical biopsy specimens from other centres are also processed. Outside slide consultations are undertaken apart from those enumerated, immuno-histochemistry and tumor marker studies are done, whenever required for a good clinical correlation.
