The Department of Nuclear Medicine has both a PET-CT (at MTMH) and a Dual Head Gamma camera (at TMH). Routine scans are carried out on the gamma camera and radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism and samarium therapy for bone pain palliation is also given. Bone densitometry is a new addition in services provided by the nuclear medicine department. The new PET CT is the only one in Jharkhand.
PET-CT scanning services are available from July 2019 onwards at MTMH. The equipment was installed in June 2019, as part of the Tata Trusts expansion program for MTMH. It is the only PET CT machine in Jharkhand.
PET-CT scanning is an important imaging modality in the diagnosis and management of various types of cancer. PET-CT also has other non-oncological applications like myocardial viability study, brain PET, etc. Following types of PET scans are available at MTMH:
- 1. FDG whole body PET-CT scan
- 2. Myocardial Viability Scan (SPECT and PET scan)
- 3. Brain PET scan
- 4. 68Ga PSMA scan for prostate cancer
